Chairman's Statement
On 9th January
2003, Legislative Decree No.36 with respect to Regulating Government’s Tenders
and Purchases came into effect in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The aims of the Law are
the following:
A.
Protection of public property and preventing the influence of personal
interests on tender formalities.
B.
Achieving the maximum level of economic efficiency to obtain Government
purchases at competitive and fair prices.
C.
Encouraging the participation of suppliers and contractors in Government
purchasing procedures.
D.
Enhancing integrity, competitiveness and providing fair treatment for all the
suppliers and contractors for the realization of the principle of equal
opportunities.
E.
Achieving transparency in all phases of government purchasing procedures.
The provisions of the
Law shall be enforced with respect to purchasing operations of all Government
Goods, Constructions and Services and shall apply to: all Ministries,
Municipalities, Consultative Council and House of Representatives, All
Government Organisations, Authorities, and Public Institutions and all
companies that are fully owned by Government.
I, and my colleagues
members of the Tenders Board, have been entrusted by the Political Leadership
in Bahrain to oversee the implementation of the provisions of the law and in
ensuring the fulfillment of its aims.
We hope that this
website will be another helpful tool in spreading the word about the provisions
of the law and in achieving further transparency in this respect.
