The Bahrain Tender Board (BTB) held an introductory workshop for procuring entities on the initiative to allocate a number of tenders and auctions to small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The workshop was attended by 171 employees and specialists representing 48 government ministries, agencies, and companies subject to the Law Regulating Tenders, Auctions, Government Procurement and Sales. The initiative is part of BTB’s continuous efforts to enhance the role of SMEs in the national economy.
The workshop aimed to shed light on one of BTB’s most important initiatives to support SMEs by allocating a number of tenders to companies registered in the SME registry and holding certification as micro, small, or medium enterprises.
Eng. Jamal Abdulaziz Al Alawi, Secretary General of the Bahrain Tender Board, confirmed that organising this workshop forms part of BTB’s broader efforts to strengthen SME participation in government tendering processes. This is achieved through initiatives designed to boost their competitiveness and provide them with greater opportunities to contribute to national economic development. He stressed the Board’s continuous commitment to developing frameworks, strengthening transparency and governance principles, and enhancing the investment climate to serve sustainable growth objectives.
Eng. Al Alawi added that this initiative reflects BTB’s dedication to empowering SMEs and enhancing their ability to compete for government contracts, supporting their growth and sustainability, while facilitating their wider participation in government tenders.
During the workshop, BTB specialists provided a detailed explanation of the initiative, its objectives, and the implementation procedures for tenders allocated to SMEs, clarifying the role of Purchasing Authorities in this process.
SMEs can view dedicated tenders via BTB’s official website, which provides all related details and requirements for participating in government tenders and auctions.
